Pre-WWII label design.
Asahi Sakura (朝日桜, Morning Sun Sakura) was one of Nintendo’s middle-class brands of hanafuda decks.
The old label has a diamond in oval pattern. This label design is shared with other brands such as Goshozakura, Hyakuman-en, Kumoizakura, and Yaezakura.
In this form, it was the 8th highest-ranking brand in Nintendo’s hanafuda lineup alongside Kintengu, behind Chujo and followed by Marufuku jirushi.
The brand was known to be used around the 1920’s and 1930’s.
Post-WWII label design.
Around early 1970’s, the brand seems to have been relaunched with new artwork similar to the labels of Heian and Marufuku Sakura.
In this form, it was considered a lower middle-class hanafuda brand, ranking above Miyako no Hana but below Tengu. It was discontinued sometime around the 1980’s.
